So often in life, we look at the negative circumstances we are in and expect them to change instantly. But these circumstances often just didn’t arrive suddenly, they came to be over time, and now we get to choose how we navigate.
That’s right. We get to choose how we respond. Where we are now in life is a result of our current belief system and the choices we have made along the way that got us here. If we are unhappy with how an aspect of our life is at present, we need to look at our beliefs and change some of them or we’ll keep spinning our wheels in the muck and sink deeper.
We have work to do, and it takes action.
If we do not look inward and expect the external world to change, we are expecting the Universe or God to do all the heavy lifting and shift things to be in our favor on our behalf. That is not how it works. The force that created us cannot be forced to change things for us. What on earth would we ever learn? That’s what we’re here to do! Learn and awaken to our potential and purpose. We all have to walk on our paths that deliver the education and hindsight needed to expand and grow from the hardships and difficult experiences. Our creator would never leave us unsupported. We are not alone, we simply need to put in effort to get results.
I was listening to a talk the other day that was referring to frustration and how it can get us so worked up. The image for this post is a result of what I drew from that, which made me think of Bruce Lee’s famed “Be Water My Friend” quote. I came up with a caption for it: A force can not be forced.
Water, friends!
Water doesn’t encounter a rock (an obstacle) and get in its face, or punch the rock, or yell at it to get out of its way, or try to get back at the rock by getting in the rock’s way.
The water just flows around the rock. It moves along. The water does not let the rock interfere with its destination. It does not allow the rock to keep it from gaining momentum toward its desired goal.
If we do not have the ability to flow in any particular aspect of our lives, we’ll be stuck. We’ll stay that way until we change our beliefs and choices (our actions and reactions) based on them in those areas.
It is not easy, but it is SO worth it
I know life (what I like to refer to as “earth school”) is not easy. Some of us have much rockier terrain than others; I have been through many difficult and painful experiences and situations in my own life. If I had not changed my beliefs over time, I’d be in a much different place mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. It takes effort and a willingness to shift perspective and see that life is actually unfolding for you. There is power in reflecting on life experiences and seeing now where the lesson is. Discover how you have grown. Explore where there are aspects of you in need of adjustment. Adjust accordingly so you are able to soften and allow kindness where bitterness usually resides. Perhaps see another’s viewpoint or actions from a neutral or compassionate perspective in order to free yourself from being their victim. These are the types of beliefs that I am referring to for updating so that you can awaken to your true self.
